Odds Fish in 2018: A Year in Review
What a year it has been for Odds Fish! We have been doing so much, and yet, it seems like we have done so little, and that we have barely gotten started! That’s because a lot of the work we did in 2018 was “behind the scenes” kind of work. For example, we finished recording the album, we wrote blog posts, we learned more about marketing, booking, content creation, releasing music, and the music industry in general, and we got ourselves set up to create some great content in 2019!
We also played some shows (including charity shows, of course), got our album mastered, and commissioned our dream artist for the album artwork. (More on that later…) So, it’s been a pretty great year. Let’s look back at some highlights:
Recording the Album
By the time 2018 rolled around, we had already been working on our album for quite awhile, and we were okay with that; we wanted it to be great and didn’t mind putting the extra time and work in. That being said… when we finally had everything recorded and mixed and were able to send it to our friend Rory Rositas in Nashville for mastering, we were beyond ecstatic! We had a very large, collective sigh of relief. Finally, we could move onto other exciting aspects of the album!
And speaking of other exciting aspects of the album…
Working with the Artist of Our Dreams
Let’s talk about the album artwork. Odds Fish is so very grateful for the artist we have working on our album artwork, as we have been admirers of his artwork for years and years. We also really enjoy him as an actor on a particular television show as well, but most importantly, we respect him as a creative entity, we appreciate his artistry and vision, and we enjoy seeing him thrive through several different creative outlets.
We are talking, of course, about the incredibly talented Canadian artist/actor/printmaker/and more: Jacob Rolfe!
If you are not yet familiar with Jacob’s work, or his art studio, Floating World Studio, here are some resources for you:
We have absolutely loved collaborating with Jacob on the artwork for the album. We have given him ideas, he has given us ideas, and it has simply been a fantastic experience crafting something so special with someone so gifted in the arts.
One of the best things about working with Jacob though has to be his personality! He just seems like such a nice, friendly, cool, chill, dude, and we love that! Working with talented people who are also good people is a passion of ours, so adding Jacob Rolfe into the mix has been an absolute joy for us, and definitely a highlight of 2018.
But there’s more…
Creating Blog Content
This has been a good year for the Odds Fish Blog. We got new subscribers, we had a few posts get shared around quite a bit, and we simply had a lot of fun creating new content for you all. Some of our favorites from this year include:
Meagan’s 11 Favorite Songs Series:
And speaking of content…
We Started a Video Series
2018 saw the birth of the Odds Fish acoustic covers video series where we do very slightly rehearsed acoustic jams of songs we dig and then post them online. So far, we have been having a lot of fun with them…
We DID play some shows too!
Though we didn’t play as many shows in 2018 as we did in 2017, we definitely played quality shows in 2018. Some highlights for us are as follows:
The Dead Flames EP Release Show
“The Rise of Anti-Claus” LIVE Radio Play with LCC Radio
Our very first show in Jackson, MI (At The Music Box)
A Donation Drive for Punks with Lunch
A canned food drive for the Jackson Interfaith Shelter
So basically, we had a lot of fun in 2018 and were very productive. But now it’s 2019, so we must move on, stay strong, and push forward towards our goals.
So what does 2019 hold for Odds Fish?
2018 was a good year for Odds Fish, but we are kind of hoping that 2019 will be even better. We have loads of content we will be trying to get out to you, the album is set to be released, and we are looking forward to doing even more live shows, charity shows, and maybe even tour around a bit. We hope that you all will be right here with us, as we attempt to make 2019 the best year yet for Odds Fish!
We truly want to thank all of you who made 2018 great! You ROCK! Special thanks to those of you who have been out here supporting Odds Fish from day one – we couldn’t do it without you. And to the new fans, thanks for jumping in and being part of the family!
And for anyone else, who isn’t already…
