Odds Fish has been having a fun and productive year thus far; we have been a part of several big shows, have enjoyed playing with loads of great bands, and have steadily been gaining ground on this album of ours (that we can’t wait to share with you!) Most recently, we even got to be a hair band from the 80’s!
On October 27th, 2017, Odds Fish was a part of the “I Heart Hairbands Halloween Party” at The Loft in Lansing, MI. It was presented by Q106 and Miller Lite and featured a photo booth from Scott V. Photography. Also on the bill with Odds Fish were Conspicuous Bystanders, Sierra Denae, DeverauX, and Handsome Pete. We had an absolute blast!
Playing “hairband” music from the 80’s was a dream come true for all of us, but especially for Odds Fish guitarist Will McCullough. He came up with most of the set list within minutes, and the rest of the band was on board with him immediately. We played songs we all really loved and that provided us with a healthy challenge when it came to prepping them for the gig.
The final set list was:
“Nothin’ But a Good Time” – Poison
“Wild Side” – Motley Crue
“Jet City Woman” – Queensryche
“Kiss Me Deadly” – Lita Ford
“Turn Up The Radio” – Autograph
“Mama, I’m Coming Home” – Ozzy Osbourne
“Still of the Night” – Whitesnake
The best part (especially in the eyes of Odds Fish lead singer Meagan Earls) was dressing up in 80’s garb and REALLY getting into the spirit of the event. It WAS a Halloween party, after all. And Odds Fish really went all in. We loved it.
We did take a bit of a break from recording to mold into an 80’s hairband for one wild night, but we quickly jumped back in after the show was over. Now we are so close to being done with the recording work that we can taste it! But there is still much more to do before it can go up for sale. There’s mixing, mastering, packaging, etc. But we are chompin’ at the bit to get this out and into the hands (and ears) of our fans! Soon, very soon! We promise! We are even taking time off from doing shows to make it happen.
The exception is, of course, shows for charitable causes. We have a pretty hard time turning down those opportunities (in fact, we haven’t yet.) The one on our books right now is “Tori Shares Christmas,” a family friendly event that raises funds to provide gifts for children in need during the holiday season. To stay up to date on that show, and to be sure not to miss any other show announcements, you may want to bookmark this page:
As for what else we’re up to, well… all of us have jobs to do, bills to pay, and responsibilities. In addition to all that boring stuff, Meagan has been writing poetry and new solo songs, going to craft shows, and attending concerts (like Lady Gaga!); Will has been composing music for what will turn into new Odds Fish songs; Tony has been rockin’ the bowling leagues; and Nick has been getting more tattoos. The Odds Fish members have also been getting out and about in the community, supporting other bands (such as Tiny Island Trio), supporting the local theatre (“The Home Team” at Riverwalk Theatre), and having fun nights out at The Grid. We have also made several charitable donations in the past month, both of money and time (as we really believe in charity, giving back, and loving others around here!), and we have spent a lot of time individually, and together, getting better at our craft. We want to give our best to our fans and we want to continually grow and get better – rising to new challenges is rewarding and fun, and Odds Fish thrives on it!
Speaking of new challenges… we have some ahead of us for sure. We have to face things we have never faced in bands before… sound intriguing? Well… stay tuned.
